More Than Just Trades: Trainee And Apprenticeships Offer 500 Different Career Opportunities

From Aviation To Business, Hospitality To Technology – Apprenticeships And Traineeships Provide A Broader Offering Than Just Traditional Trades.

Young People Who Have Completed A Trade Are Almost 20% More Likely To Be In Full Time Employment Six Months After They Complete Their Apprenticeship, Versus A University Graduate.

Year 12 graduates who miss out on a university offer should look to apprenticeships and traineeships as an alternative pathway to becoming formally qualified, according to South Australia’s provider of apprenticeships and traineeships, Apprenticeship Support Australia (ASA), powered by the South Australian Business Chamber.

ASA General Manager, Sharyn Davies said young people who complete an apprenticeship or traineeship not only gain practical skills valued by employers but are also awarded nationally recognised qualifications.

There are more than 500 occupations that offer apprenticeship and traineeship pathways, ranging from Certificate II to Advanced Diploma levels,” Ms Davies said.

This includes traditional trades as well as many emerging occupations in other sectors of business and industry.”

An apprenticeship or traineeship is a learning pathway that combines paid on-the-job training and formal study with a Registered Training Organisation.

It’s a great way to gain a nationally recognised qualification while earning a wage,” Ms Davies explained.

Due to the skill shortage in some industries, young people who have completed a traineeship or apprenticeship are almost 20% more likely to be in full time employment six months after completion, versus a university graduate.

Apprentices and trainees are often offered work by their employers at the completion of their training as they have the specific skills in demand by their industry,” Ms Davies said.

If you miss out on a university offer, you still have literally hundreds of training options to choose from that will lead to a fulfilling career.”
